A House for the Married Couple
For almost everyone, household features like counter tops, cabinets, switches, and door handles are all made on the basis of standard size measurements. However, for the Brazilian couple, Paulo Gabriel da Silva Barros and Katyucia Lie Hoshino, those common measurements proved to be a problem.
These individuals, who have both suffered from dwarfism, renovated their house in Itapeva, São Paulo, with regard to their body sizes to make life easy.
Guinness World Record Holders
In 2016, Guinness World Records declared Paulo and Katyucia the world’s shortest married couple. Their heights totaled up to 181.41 centimeters, of which Paulo is 90.28 cm and Katyucia 91.13 cm.
The married couple came into existence after meeting and living together for many years.
Low Counters Easier for Daily Routines
One of the major modifications in their home is related to the kitchen. The couple changed the height of countertops and stovetops so that they could cook food comfortably.
Standard tall cabinets were replaced with easily accessible drawers and shelves in some areas, which gives the couple a chance to get their plates, products, and other things in their homes without requiring help all the time.
A custom-designed sink was made for them at an adequate level, so that it would be easier for Paulo to wash dishes.
Minor Adjustments Have Great Impact
Adjustments do not stop in the kitchen. For example, the door handles and switches were installed at a lower level, as well as the utility sink in the laundry room.
Their home also has furniture and workspaces adapted to their height, with portable step stools at hand when necessary.
All these adjustments help the couple to deal with many tasks on their own.
All these modifications enable the couple to do a lot of activities on their own.
A House that Serves as a Refuge
To Katyucia, the adapted house is much more than a place of convenience. This particular house has been termed as a “refuge” because Katyucia feels like living independently without having to keep adjusting to her surroundings.
in the outside world, it is not always easy for the couple to adapt to the surroundings. In their house, however, the surroundings have been adapted to suit them.
Their Story Keeps on Inspiring Attention
The custom-built house belonging to the couple is lately highlighted on TLC’s Most Extreme Humans, offering more information on how they’ve modified their living space to better suit their needs.
Their story serves as an illustration of how much impact proper planning and designing can make in one's life.
Instead of attempting to adapt themselves to a regular sized space, Paulo and Katyucia built a house according to their own specifications.
Their house proves the fact that a house does not need to follow any regular measurements; it just needs to be made for its future occupants.
